Reflexology For Little Feet (Part 2)

Since the beginning of humankind, loved ones have put a hand on each other for support. Massage is our oldest form of therapy and one of the most powerful methods of healing. Massaging your child’s feet daily in addition to the profound health benefits is a wonderful way of bonding, and having quality time through sharing the power of loving human touch.

What a warm feeling, making my heart joyfully smile, to see two pairs of feet showing up from the blanket today. Big feet of my teenager, and little feet. They both adore foot massage.

By age 30 or 35, we have repetitive habits developed. By massaging your child’s feet daily, you help form healthy self-care habits, giving your kids a potent tool, that doesn’t cost anything. Massaging your feet contributes to increased relaxation, reduced muscle soreness, proper posture, improves circulation, energy, and alertness.

Last week we talked about reflexology for the feet, The Five Zones, the importance and ways of messaging your toes, Solar Plexus or K1 reflex point. For more information, check out last week’s article.

In addition to those areas, I always give a loving gentle massage to the medial and lateral areas of the foot.

Pass the area with your thumb walking at least 3 times up or down. Gently spread the tissue, stop and do little circles, figure 8s, or just hold. All is appropriate. This delicate area corresponds to the spine. Massaging reflexes of the spine help to relax the muscle tension surrounding the vertebra, helping restoration of proper circulation.

Chinese Master Mu Yuchun says “Your Big Toe tells a lot about your health”. Lightly massaging the toe, especially the inside (medial) part is incredible at promoting blood circulation to your head and improving memory. The toe should look soft and round. Give yourself longer massages if you observe hard areas or acute angles. From my personal experience massaging the great toe before I sit down to study helps me to memorize efficiently and quickly. There was a time when the inside of my great toe felt very tender to me, it took about 8 daily gentle deep, circular, pressing motion massages for the tenderness to disappear. The effects were improved alertness, brain fogginess feeling resolved, and even vision got a different form of sharpness.

Giving a loving touch to the lateral part of the foot would cover reflex points for the hips, knees, and elbows.

Chinese Master Mu Yuchun calls this area De Jin tendon, Earth Tendon, “One of the main tendons for your overall health and well-being”. It is really warming for the feet, promotes stomach health, and enhances sound sleep, to mention one of the few benefits. As you see I chose a plain stick to give myself a loving massage. Nature gifts are always the best for me, and always available.

Reflexology is a very simple and natural process of “tuning your body back into the natural rhythms of the Universe” (Mildred Carter). I hope you’ll start looking at your feet and foot massage differently and with more curiosity.

Love and Light,
